Things to Do
So much to do and so little time – We don’t do ‘bored’ in Wyre. Your leisure time is precious and we know that you want to spend it wisely. So confident are we that you will love your time in Wyre, we are sure we can tempt event the hardiest workaholic away from their labour.
What better way of spending your days than with the children enjoying an activity, which will encourage their creativity or their environmental awareness? Wyre has a fantastic summer programme of events, just for the kids or a year-round list of events for the whole family to enjoy. Join our Countryside Rangers for an activity or a walk or pick up a leaflet from one of our Tourist Information Centres to inspire your itinerary.
To learn more about our heritage, Wyre has two captivating museums: Fleetwood Museum in the old Customs House and the Fylde County Life Museum situated just outside Fleetwood. The museums are jam packed with maritime, social and agricultural artefacts.
Wyre has its fair share of architectural gems; the two Fleetwood lighthouses, unique in their design to enable vessels to sail into port safely once aligned, a collection of ancient country churches and the aqueduct at Garstang (designed by John Rennie) carries the Lancaster Canal over the River Wyre fifty feet below. You can also see the remains of Greenhalgh Castle at Garstang, which was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell in 1646.
There is always something to do and somewhere to go within Wyre, but if you want to plan your visit around our fantastic programme of events, then why not see our Events section for more inspiration.
